Masculine Monolith examines contemporary masculinity through the construction of an exaggerated male archetype — a figure positioned somewhere between authority, performance, and regression. Developed through questioning what masculinity has come to represent within contemporary culture and politics, the work draws upon dominant masculine ideals embodied through figures of power, wealth and athleticism.
At the centre of the work is a tension between perceived strength and underlying immaturity. Referencing the behavioural language of tantrums, excess, and spectacle, the collection reframes contemporary masculine authority as something increasingly performative and infantile. These contradictions are translated through exaggerated silhouettes and the fusion of familiar masculine archetypes — the businessman, the athlete, the tradesman — constructing a singular figure intended to represent an ultimate yet unstable image of modern manhood.
Through this process, the piece questions masculinity not as a fixed identity, but as a constructed performance shaped by power, self importance and immaturity.
