THE WHOLE MESS...ALMOST
2025

The Whole Mess... Almost explores absurdity as both subject and methodology. Developed in response to the pervasive instability of the contemporary moment, the project draws upon the anti-rational strategies of Dada, spontaneous improvisation of jazz, and the indeterminacy of aleatoric composition to construct a process rooted in chance, interruption, and intuitive association.

Influenced by figures such as Ray Johnson, Marcel Duchamp, Gregory Corso, and John Cage, the work embraces coincidence and irrational juxtaposition as generative tools. Through the extraction and recontextualisation of imagery gathered over the summer, the garment emerged through a process of fragmented recombination, destabilising familiar visual codes and fixed meaning.

Oscillating between coherence and contradiction, the project negotiates the tension between logic and disorder, sincerity and artifice, reality and unreality — reflecting on the instability of meaning within an increasingly mediated and absurd contemporary culture.
